Located centrally on the terrace the café is a modern single story building with knapped flint panels to coordinate with the original flint on the terrace wall. The main space has a seating capacity of 36 indoors and has been designed to be a flexible multi-purpose space with hidden storage and sink for workshops and events. The café was opened in August 2021 and has a team of hard working volunteers.
With a prime view over the newly restored bandstand and close to one of park’s play areas, the café is elegantly located on the upper terrace with outside seating and nearby toilets (one with disabled and baby changing facilities). Morning coffees, English breakfasts, Sunday roasts, sandwiches, toasties, pastries and a range of tempting cakes and ice-creams are on offer.
Inside, the café is simple and modern, with bright primary coloured chairs, large doors to take in the views of the beautiful park which open up in the good weather and under-floor heating for the colder months.
The café team are very keen to make sure this fantastic community asset is used by as wide a range of local people as possible, so if you or your group are looking for somewhere to hold regular get-togethers or one-off special events, then please get in touch (contact information below).
The café was designed with energy efficiency as a priority and our Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) gives a ‘A Rating’ for the building, with a 36% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to the building regulations target value. Potential over heating from solar gain is between 57.2% and 95.7% lower than building regulations target. Overall from the government’s records for efficiency ratings since 2009, the Ellington Café’s rating is within the top 1.7% of England’s non-domestic buildings.
The café and toilets are open Tuesday to Sunday 10am – 4pm (later in the summer).
All the profits from the café are passed to the Friends of Ellington Park CIO and used to improve your experience in our community’s park.
